Larry BellLarry Bell is a 25 year veteran in education.

Fifteen of those years were spent as a classroom teacher where he was nominated for the National Agnes Mayer Outstanding Teacher Award.

Larry Bell has been the keynote speaker at many conferences across the country such as the National ASCD Conference, the National Association of Multicultural Education Conference, numerous state NEA affiliates and hundreds of local and regional conferences.

Larry, who taught at Gar-field High School, a school with over 3,000 students speaking 36 different languages, was recognized for his innovative classroom strategies that allowed his so called “Tough Kids” as well as his “Gifted and Talented” to excel!

For seven years, Larry Bell served as the Supervisor of Multicultural Education for Prince William County which meant providing hands-on workshops for teachers and students in 67 schools with 3000+ teachers and 50,000 students.

Larry’s efforts in this position were recognized when he was given a $550,000 grant by the federal government to pilot his ideas in 1996, and again when he was selected as the Mary Hatwood Futrell Award winner by the Virginia Education Association in 1998. He was also invited, and traveled, to South Africa to share ideas in 1996.

Larry, a Citadel graduate, is now a full time consultant who owns his own company.

Fall Conference Update

SOEA Fall Conference Update Just wanted to send an update and remind you that the fall conference is coming up this Saturday and there is still time to register! There will be some GREAT breakout sessions and AWESOME door prizes as always!! SOEA State Fall Conference: Oct3, 8:30-3:30 at UCO in Edmond. Sign up with Mrs. Rogers, NB1046. Car pooling available. It is free to SOEA members. There will be door prizes, free lunch, and great workshops: True Colors, grant writing, member benefits, special education, and classroom management. I hope everyone can make it! If you have any questions you can e-mail the State SOEA officers at studentoea@gmail.com The options to register are: You can sign up with Mrs. Rogers by Tuesday (Sept 29) or Wednesday to Friday go by Mrs. Mott's office NB1012. Fill out the form there and she will fax it in for you (please sign up no later than 3pm on Friday Oct 2) You must be a member of SOEA to attend the conference free. If you are not a member you can go by Mrs. Roger's office to join, go to www.okea.org to join, or you can join at the conference. The Dues are $35: 25 state and 10 local.

The Cameron/RSU chapter of SOEA was formed in the Fall of 2007. Since that time, the chapter has grown in numbers and has participated in campus service projects as well as providing professional related programs to SOEA members.

Update


Well our Book and Bake sale went great! Thanks to all of your who came by, donated, and helped out with it.

The next event will be the SOEA State Fall Conference: Oct3, 8:30-3:30 at UCO in Edmond. Sign up with Mrs. Rogers. Car pooling will be formed. It is free to SOEA members. There will be door prizes, free lunch, and great workshops: true colors, grant writing, member benefits, special education, and classroom management. I hope to see you there!

Plans 2009-2010

I hope this finds you having a great fall semester so far.

A word
from your CUSOEA President and state OEA Delegate: As a state officer I met with the others Saturday to finish up plans for the fall conference. I hope you are able to go, it will be a good one. We have and are still working hard on the meeting. It is October 3 at 8 to 3:30 at UCO! There will be break out sessions over true colors, classroom management, special education, grants, and member benefits! Sign up with Mrs. Rogers if you want to go and if you want to car pool! It is paid for if you are a member! Lots of door prizes, information,people to meet, and lunch provided!

Early Bird Special
The Early Bird Special is going on now. You can join for $40: (dues) $35 and get a shirt for $5 (now until Sept 30). Starting Oct 1, 2009 the price will be $45 (dues 35 and shirt $10). Stop by Mrs. Rogers office to join or go to www.okea.org/student and join, then print out a form to show Mrs. Rogers you joined so you can get your shirt for $5.
